Isn’t it wonderful when someone makes a big to-do over us? We feel like we are the most special person on the earth at that moment. Someone took the time to invest in us, set us apart for some spoiling. Today I took one of my grandson’s out for his birthday spoiling. It is his day, I remember when he waws born and the joy that flooded my soul at the first look at him. I took great pleasure and delight in buying his gifts and seeing the excitement in his blue eyes. As I watched his eyes dance with excitement I could not help but think about how God delights in me and you, his children are special to him.

Scripture says:

Psalm 18:19 “He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. ”

Psalm 147:11 “But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.”

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

Now I don’t know about you but this sounds like God loves to spoil his children and celebrate them. To think that the one who hung the moon and calls the stars by name thinks I am worth rejoicing over and finds pleasure in the thought of me.

God thinks I am a big deal! Every morning he wakes me and puts new air in my lungs. He provides for me all day long with clothing, food, joy, beauty, family, friends and so much more. Every day he wakes me to new mercies. I am on his mind, I am special to him. You are special to him. If you belong to Christ, you are a big deal!

Sometimes in this world, we feel underappreciated or left out. We are never left out with God. We are constantly on his mind and provided for. All our needs are met and much of the time our wants as well. He delighted in us when we were born. After all, we were his idea. He planned all our days, formed us in our mother’s womb and called it good. He sings over us with love songs as we sleep and move and breathe. Have you ever sang over your child’s crib at night, gazing down with your eyes and heart so full of love for that sleeping little one. How much more must our Father in heaven sing and delight over us.

The next time you are feeling left out, alone, not special to anyone, remember this; if you belong to Christ, you are a BIG DEAL! He loves to talk to you, he loves to listen to your prayers, he loves to give good gifts to his children, he watches over us all the time and never leaves us alone for one second. When we hurt, he hurts, when we smile, I think God smiles. He delights in us, think about that for a while. Let it sink in, fill your heart and make you lift your head in praise to the one who created you, came to earth for you, died for you and rose again, calls you his own, and forgives all your sin…all so you could be saved and spend eternity with him. He must think you are pretty special to do all of that, don’t you agree!
