Better Yet, “He Knows Me!”

As Christians, we often take pride in the fact that we know Christ. We take pride in reading our Bibles, working in our church, telling others about Jesus. We take pride in knowing his word, yet if he had not called us and saved us, we too would be lost in our trespasses and sins. God has done the full work of our salvation, so really, we have no reason to boast unless we are boasting about Him.

My husband likes to listen to a street preacher sometimes on YouTube, I do not care much for him, it isn’t because he is not speaking the truth, I just do not like his tone and the way he goes about it. However, one day he yelled out to a woman passing by, “Do you know the Lord or something to that effect.  Her response was like a trumpet sounding in my soul, she said: “better yet, He knows me!” She got it!

We need to read God’s word, we need to hide his word in our hearts, but we also need to remember that God knows us fully! Nothing we think or do is ever hidden from him. He knows us and still loves us! Once we belong to Christ we are his forever. Nothing can change our standing with him. We all should do everything in our power to live worthy of the calling. Sin should not be our norm, but a surrendered life should be.

God knowing us should bring comfort to us, not fear. If hearing these words, “better yet, He knows me,” brings you anxious thoughts or puts fear into you, then you need to check your heart and your relationship. I am so thankful God knows me, He knows even the intent of my heart and thoughts. I cannot figure me out sometimes, yet he already has and loves me unconditionally anyway. God does not make us perfect before He calls us, He calls us while we are yet sinners. When we are unlovable, and unworthy. I love knowing that nothing is hidden from God. I cannot pretend my way out of anything.

This woman’s statement was made with such joy and freedom. It was as if she had a secret that could change the world and wanted everyone to hear her shout it.  I believe it really could change the world if every person knew how fully known they are by God. Even the unsaved are fully known by an all-seeing God.

When you are feeling alone, scared, confused or any other emotion, God knows it before it is spoken. We do not have to come up with the right words to say or pray, God already sees what we need. Sometimes just sitting quietly with him is enough. Words can get in the way of our deepest needs because sometimes they fall so short.

Let knowing that God knows you bring you comfort and peace today. Rest in His knowledge and goodness. Let these scriptures seep deep into your soul as you meditate on them. Rest in this: He called you, He keeps you, He will finish the work he started in you, He knows your name, He knows the very number of the hairs on your head, He will get you to heaven, You are His!

John 3:20 “For whenever our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.”

Hebrews 4: 12-13  ” For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must all give an account.”

Job 34:21 “For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps.”

Psalm 33: 13-15 “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on the earth- 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.”

Jeremiah 23:24 “Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.”

Matthew 6:8 “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

1 Chronicles 28:9 “the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

I pray you will read these words and contentment and hope will fill you. That knowing that “He knows you” is a wonderful thing. We cannot impress him with anything, He takes us as we are and has chosen to pour out his love on us. He intercedes for us at all times. (Romans 8:34) Peace what wonderful peace knowing I can rest in His goodness and love and “better yet, He knows me!”
