What does it mean to fight the good fight of faith, it doesn’t mean hitting someone or arguing scripture. It does mean we are to preserve what has already been given to us from Genesis to
Revelation., this gospel that has come down through the ages that is life to us. We are to be the carriers of the good news, we are to tell others what has been revealed to us. There is no other
Revelation coming, we have all we have needed and all we will ever need.
1 Timothy 6:12 says: “12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. We are to be a
witness to those we come in contact with through word and deed.”
In Jude 1:3 we read this, “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for
me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
There has always been a battle raging for truth and it seems to
heat up each and every day, we are to strive to preserve this truth and spread it to as many as we can, but we must remember in doing this that it is not people we are fighting, we find in
Ephesians 6:12 this, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
There is spiritual wickedness everywhere you look, our news hour is spent usually telling about a war, a murder, lawsuits etc. So, what should we do first?
Ephesians 6:11 tells us: “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”.
While we are suited up, we need to be in prayer asking God to give each of us the wisdom to know what to say, when to say it, what to do and when to do it. If we persevere and fight the good fight this is what James 1:12 tells us to expect: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
And when all is said and done we find this nugget in scripture in 2 Timothy 4:8 “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing; and if that does excite you, this should, “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:14
We are never left to our own, God is always with us and for us, so go fight the good fight joyfully, love with the kind of love Jesus had, no matter the color or belief. We are all created in His image, we are all in need of the “good news”, the “life” we find in scripture and in a relationship with Jesus. Be His hands of flesh on this earth to a confused and dying world.
We can never argue someone into believing, we can never shame someone into believing and we should not try. We to love them, show them Jesus by the way we live, love them and let God be God. He does all the saving, we are just privileged to participate in a small way, by the way we talk our talk and walk our walk. Just be sure your armor is on…and your smile!
